Measure 2

Students who have enrolled in a program with a start date from May to September 2020 and study online up to April 30, 2021, and who graduate from more than one eligible programs of study, may be able to combine the length of their programs of study when they apply for a post-graduation work permit in the future, as long as 50% of their total studies are completed in Canada.

Measure 3

Students who have enrolled in a program that is between 8 and 12 months in length, with a start date from May to September 2020, will be able to complete their entire program online from abroad and still be eligible for a post-graduation work permit.

Pros and Cons

The pros and cons of these measures have been debatable ever since they have been announced, but the advantages seem pretty clear. A list of possible benefits that the next year’s intakes and guidelines may have provided is given below. If you had any doubts about going forward with applying for the January intake, these points will help you clear them. Now all you have to do is work for getting your acceptance letters and student visa – the first one depends on your applications, and the second one can be taken care of easily with the help of student visa consultants.

 

  1. The new guidelines have given more flexibility to students. They can study online from abroad till the 30th of April, 2021, and still be eligible for a post graduate work permit. You can complete about fifty percent of your course online, and still be eligible, given that you complete the rest in Canada, once travelling becomes possible.

 

  1. When a student decides to apply for a post graduate work permit, the time spent studying in online classes will also be counted for his or her eligibility, unlike before, when the time for only on-campus classes was recorded.

  1. The rate of approvals and admits for the January intake may be considerably higher, because of a number of admits being deferred. This will give you a higher chance of getting approved even if you feel like your scores were not satisfactory.

 

  1. Unlike courses that began in May or September and were mostly completed online, students in the January intake will actually get to experience life on campus because the course duration will exceed April.
